EDUC 1003 Skills for Success


Skills for Success is a 3-hour elective credit course designed to assist students who would benefit from an intensive program of academic assistance.  Methods for improving reading comprehension, listening and memory skills, and developing note-taking and study strategies are all a part of this useful class. Written and oral communication skills are also discussed and developed.  This course examines learning and thinking processes with an emphasis on experiential application of effective reading, writing, and study strategies.  Areas of study include information processing theory, cognitive and behavioral influences in motivation and concentration,  assessment of learning and thinking styles and development of  an individualized learning profile for efficient and effective learning and review strategies.
Who should take this course?
  • Students who re-enter the university following academic suspension may be required to enroll in this course.
  • Students who have been put on scholastic probation as well as students who do not pass all three sections of the THEA are highly recommended to take this course.
  • Any student may enroll in Skills for Success, but may not enroll in College Connections simultaneously. Generally, beginning freshman are encouraged to take MWSU 1233 - College Connections.
