More than 150 miles away from Wichita Falls, TX, according to the Texas Mileage Guide.

How do I sign up to take the exam by proctor?

Fill out the form by clicking here: Distance Verification The Writing Proficiency Office will receive the form directly and will give you further directions.

If I take the exam by proctor, do I take the exam the same dates and times as the on-campus exams are given?

No. Exams are generally mailed to the proctor 3-4 weeks prior to the on-campus exam dates. You will have a 10-day window to take the exam prior to the on-campus dates. For example, if the on-campus dates are in early March, you will take the exam in mid-late February. Distance exams are given early to ensure they can arrive in the mail to the Writing Proficiency Office in time to coincide with the on-campus dates. Distance exams are graded and scored at the same time as on-campus exams.

Who can I use as a proctor?

An employee of a college/university's testing center (may also be called assessment center). A student MAY NOT use a library, a learning resource center, a favorite professor or advisor, a boss, a friend, etc. All proctors must be verified by the Writing Proficiency Office in advance.

How do I verify my proctor with the Writing Proficiency Office?

Have the proctor e-mail the Writing Proficiency Office at writingprof@mwsu.edu. The e-mail should indicate that the person agrees to proctor the student and should state the proctor's name, the proctor's title, the proctor's university and the university's website, and the proctor's mailing address.

What if I am in the military?

If you are stationed overseas, accomodations can be made for you to take the exam by proctor at the education center on your base. If you are stationed in the United States, you will need to take the exam at a college/university's testing center.
